This project re-establishes links between a heterogeneous set of building programmes around the train station and connects major existing facilities (the station, the Coubertin hall, the secondary school and sports centre) via a landscaped north-south “backbone”.
The neighbourhood’s landscape is inspired by agricultural motifs from the nearby Plaine de France, which is very close and yet cannot be seen from the station. These landscape typologies highlight the quality of the soil on the plain (one of the most fertile in Europe), while providing space for hardy, long-lasting vegetation.
Highly-detailed work on the site’s topography means that all rainfall – both regular and exceptional – can be managed through gravity and in the open air, with all public facilities being fully disconnected from the networks. Green, blue and brown corridors are interwoven and combined with the network of soft transport modes to provide genuine “cooler” routes for moving throughout the city.
